The link will be available to conference registrants for 30 days before we move the documents to our Members-Only link.     FAMSS NEWS Patient Safety Organizations 11-11-2008 -- Through the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005, Congress authorized the creation of Patient Safety Organizations ("PSOs") to reduce the incidence of events that adversely affect patient safety. The Department of Health and Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality ("AHRQ") has begun listing PSOs on its website. The HIPAA Security Rule On October 27, the Office of Inspector General ("OIG") issued a report finding that CMS's complaint-driven enforcement of the HIPAA Security Rule has been insufficient to prevent security breaches by health care organizations. The report recommended that CMS develop a policy for conducting compliance audits. 11-11-2008 -- On October 30, CMS announced the adoption of 2009 payment and policy changes for hospital outpatient and ambulatory surgical center services with plans to strengthen the relationship between quality and reimbursement.
